📍 Floransa
Known as the Cradle of the Renaissance, this magnificent city is steeped in history and culture. Florence was once the capital of Italy (more precisely from 1865 to 1870) after the Italian Unification. It is now mostly known for its numerous masterpieces of Renaissance art and its gorgeous architecture. Many artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Donatello, Giotto, Masaccio, and Danto, among others, sprung from the city. Their contribution kicked off the early Renaissance.

During your visit, you will probably be amazed by the historic center of Florence, which is by the way on the World Heritage List of UNESCO. Indeed, it reveals the remains of the city’s 14th-century walls, where you can find seven hundred years of cultural and artistic among which the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Church of Santa Croce, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi Gallery, and the Palazzo Pitti, sit proudly! For instance, it is interesting to note that the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is a construction dedicated to the Virgin of Flowers and remains a major landmark for both Italians and tourists.

In addition, you will be able to get a grasp of the artistic works of renowned great masters like the famous Michelangelo.

In Florence, you can also enter the Gucci Garden, which is a museum entirely dedicated to the most iconic creations of the Florentine fashion house. The original suitcases created by Guccio Gucci himself, the collections of Tom Ford and Frida Giannini, as well as Alessandro Michele are all exhibited there. So, we can say that Firenze stands out to be the perfect city for “fashion addicts”. After that, Giotto’s Campanile will be perfect for a visit. Its Gothic architecture is known as one of the most famous designs in the city. There are five levels with the exterior of the tower adorned by polychrome marble decoration.

Then, Ponte Vecchio Bridge is surely another place not to be missed.

Passing over the Arno river, Ponte Vecchio also highlights several shops built into the sides of the bridge where you will find jewelers, art dealers, and other souvenir items to bring back from your trip. Furthermore, whatever the period you choose to go to Florence, make sure to check out some of the main events to attend in the city. The most popular ones are :

  • La Cavalcata dei Magi (January) : Marking the 12th day of Jesus Christ’s birth and the arrival of the Three Kings to Bethlehem.

  • Carnevale (February) : The parade goes from Lungarno Vespucci to Piazza Duomo before ending at Piazza della Signoria where the best costumes are rewarded.

  • Florentine New Year (March) : Organized at the Basilica of Santissima Annunziata, the locals celebrate the manifestation of the Archangel Gabriel to announce the birth of Jesus Christ to Mary.

  • Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (April-June) : It is perfect for all classical music, ballet and opera lovers.

While walking in the beautiful streets of Florence, you will discover some of its emblematic markets namely Mercato Nuovo known for the leather goods and scarves, but also the Sant’Ambrosio Market where you will simply find many household items as well as vintage clothes. Then, grab some fresh flowers at the Flower Market at Piazza della Repubblica before taking a seat at the restaurant for lunch or dinner.
