Lake Zaysan

Located in eastern Kazakhstan near the Chinese border, Lake Zaysan is a massive freshwater reservoir formed by the damming of the Irtysh River. This ancient lake basin, once home to prehistoric creatures whose fossils are still discovered today, now serves as an important fishing ground and bird sanctuary.
