Besançon

Besançon is a historic city in eastern France, serving as the capital of the Franche-Comté region and the Doubs department. The city is renowned for its well-preserved 17th-century citadel designed by military engineer Vauban, which is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besançon has a rich horological tradition and is considered France's watchmaking capital, while also being known as the birthplace of famous writer Victor Hugo.
