Mémoires et envols

Mémoires et envols brings together three distinct contemporary dance works united by themes of individual history, collective imagination, and identity. The evening runs approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes with an intermission, and contains some passages in English.

Opening the programme, FE by EL GAO features four performers of Cuban origin in a powerful exploration of human emotion and trauma. The piece weaves together contemporary dance, Afro-Cuban folklore, and classical ballet into a cohesive meditation on social transformation and resilience.

Meggie Cloutier-Hamel's Projet Pilote is a solo work built around the symbolism of paper airplanes — objects that evoke childhood memories and the transition to adulthood. Trained at the École supérieure de ballet du Québec and the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Cloutier-Hamel uses the manipulation of these objects (balance, flight, fall, relaunch) as the direct choreographic impulse.

Closing the programme, Kapwa by Janelle Hacault is a solo rooted in a pilgrimage to the artist's ancestral homeland. The Canadian artist of Filipino and French descent — known for her work in stage, screen, and circus arts — draws on the Filipino philosophical concept of 'Kapwa' (the deep interconnection of all beings) to reimagine an existence free from patriarchy and capitalism.

Tickets are priced at $49 (regular, taxes and fees included), with a youth rate also available. The performance is produced and presented by Festival Quartiers Danses.
