Territoire de Belfort

📂 Destination 🏷️ Department

Territoire de Belfort is France's smallest department by area, located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France near the Swiss and German borders. It was created in 1922 from territory that remained French after the Franco-Prussian War, when the rest of Alsace-Lorraine was ceded to Germany. The department is known for its strategic location, industrial heritage (particularly in engineering and manufacturing), and the famous Lion of Belfort sculpture commemorating the city's resistance during the 1870-71 siege.
