Nièvre is a department in the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region of central France, created in 1790 and named after the Nièvre River. The department is known for its rural landscape, including parts of the Morvan Regional Natural Park, and its historical significance in the timber industry, particularly floating logs down rivers to Paris. Its prefecture is Nevers, a historic city famous for its faience pottery and as the resting place of Saint Bernadette of Lourdes.
