New Caledonia

New Caledonia is a French collectivity (not a department) located in the southwest Pacific Ocean, consisting of the main island of Grande Terre and several smaller islands. It is known for having the world's second-largest barrier reef and significant nickel mining operations, which make it one of the world's top nickel producers. The territory has a unique political status with considerable autonomy from France and a diverse population including indigenous Kanak people, French settlers, and other Pacific Islander communities.
