Guatavita Lake

This perfectly circular sacred lake, formed in an ancient volcanic crater, is the legendary site of the El Dorado ritual where Muisca chiefs covered themselves in gold dust. Located just northeast of Bogotá, the emerald-green waters are surrounded by rolling hills and offer insight into pre-Columbian indigenous cultures. The lake's mystical atmosphere and historical significance make it one of Colombia's most culturally important natural sites.
