Ardennes

Ardennes is a department in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, named after the forested Ardennes mountain range that extends into Belgium and Luxembourg. The department is historically significant as the site of major battles during both World Wars, including the German offensive through the Ardennes in 1940 and the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. It is characterized by dense forests, rolling hills, and rural landscapes, with Charleville-Mézières serving as its prefecture.
